Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat is a priceless temple of the city, aged at least 600 years old; with the main pagoda containing the Buddha's relics, but it was smuggled to find the property until it deteriorated badly. The dungeon in this prang is the origin of the very famous powder amulet in Suphanburi which is one of the 5 popular amulets "Benjaphakee". Many archaeologists commented that this prang is probably the construction art of the U-Thong Suphan period.
It is located in Tambon Rua Yai, on the west bank of Suphan Buri River, at Sompharnkong Road separated from Malaiman Road for about 300 meters. In the past, it was the center of Suphannaphum, and it is a priceless temple, and assumed to be at least 600 years old. The main prang is the place where the relics are contained; but in 1913, villagers smuggled for property until it deteriorated badly. As for the very famous Phong Suphan Buri amulet, which is one of the "Benjaphakee", has gone from the dungeon in this prang as well including other famous amulets apart from Phra Phong Suphan such as; Phra Kamphaeng Sok, Phra Mahesuan, Phra Suphan Yod Tho and Phra Suphan Lang Phan as well as various Chin amulets which is currently rare to find.
Many archaeologists commented that it is probably the art of construction in the era of U Thong Suphanphum; because of construction evidence indicates that it is a brick construction without mortar, which is an old method before the Ayutthaya period.
