Phra Kong - Good for protection, ward off spirits and danger. Phra Kong is the oldest amulet in Thailand, found at Wat Mahawan, Lamphun.

Made from clay with mixed Buddhism style between Davarawadi and Sri Vichai in the middle age Haripunchai period (12th Century). This amulets is classified into 5 moulds - Pim Yai, Pim Klang, Pim Lek, Pim Tor, Pim Tune.

There are many memorandums about the making of Phra Kong mentioned that an ascetic named "Narata" or "Narod" was the maker in the regina Cham devi's regime, who the first queen of Haripunchai Kingdom. Phra Kong was found in the first time in earlier period of King Rama 5th but the memorandum of a monk named "Tha" , the head of Wat Kong Luesi in that time and from the monk named "Bondharm" of Wat Phrathat Haripunchai mentioned in 1892 Chedi of Wat Mahawan was ruined and some part collapsed. In the regime of King Luang Hemapintujit, the Chedi was rebuilt so the amulets were found inside. Some of these amulets was again refilled back into the Chedi.

1908, the base of Chedi Wat Mahawan was ruined and found amulets which were refilled in 1892. All of these amulets were brought out. These amulets were found in big quantity and recognised to be old amulet from old Chedi which suceed till now. Also newly made of Phra Kong amulets to replace the old period amulets in Chedi, expected that made by Khruba Krongkaew which different period from amulets in first found. Until 1955, the amulets were found again by digging in the temple area and under the priest's bode.

The found amulets were recognised amulets from new lots which are available nowadays. Then in 1963, in renovation of the chapel is the last time of finding about 300 pieces of Phra Rod amulets. Since then people often dig to find amulet in the temple area but rare.

But nowadays digging was forbidden. Phra Rod made from baked clay which seen in several colours due to different temperature used to bake the amulet.
